Texas Retired Educators Alliance

Who We Are

We’re the Texas Retired Educators Alliance. We help current and future retired teachers in Texas live better lives through social connection, charitable giving to educational causes and retirement benefit navigation. The Texas Retired Educators Alliance (TREA) is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization rooted in Texas. Our history in Texas dates back over 30 years, through the American Senior Benefits Association (ASBA), TREA’s national umbrella. ASBA is a charity that started out with 25,000 members, and now serves over 700,000 seniors in Texas and across the nation. With over 116,000 members in Texas, and thousands of retired teachers in Texas, ASBA saw a need to have a dedicated platform serving retired teachers in Texas. TREA is committed to serving current and future retired educators in Texas through membership in our FREE association that offers access to educational content, charitable giving and scholarship grants, and help planning for and living, retirement to its fullest.

We have donated millions of dollars over the years to worthy causes like Cystic Fibrosis of Central Texas, Kidz1st Fund in partnership with Jimbo Fisher, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Texas, The Blood Center of Central Texas, Autism Speaks, HandsNHooves, Donors Choose and through our own Scholarship Grant program. TREA is proud to be a trusted resource for current and future retired teachers, and we look forward to continuing to serve you and your communities for many more years to come.

Founder’s Spotlight

TREA’s charitable efforts begin with Billy Hill Jr, our organization’s founder. In 1986, Billy created the charitable organization that today is known as ASBA nationally, and in Texas, now TREA. Billy began raising money for worthy causes with a focus on rare children’s diseases through various events, the biggest being the annual Hill Country Classic golf tournament held in Austin, Texas. Billy’s passion for serving lesser-known causes needing greater awareness leads to positive impacts and great strides towards hope and disease management, with the ultimate goal of a cure. Under Billy’s leadership, the focus expanded towards education. ASBA, and now TREA, give away college scholarship grants of up to $1,000. TREA is honored to be an extension of Billy’s mission, and we look forward to growing the good we do in Texas in education.
